How do I book a place on an FMD training session?

Following authorisation from your line manager, you will need to complete a booking form. As many staff in FM do not have access to a computer, a manager may need to complete the form on their behalf.

How do I book a place on courses run elsewhere at the University?

Following authorisation from your line manager, book the course directly with the provider.

What if I want to book onto a course that is run externally?

You will need to speak with your manager and gain agreement that the course you wish to follow is linked to your role or to a planned future role. Details

Who pays for external courses?

In most instances, it will be your department that pays for the course. In some circumstances, FM Training and Development will fund the course.

How do I cancel a session that I have booked?

Should you cancel within two weeks of a course start date, your department may incur cancellation charges commensurate with that training session.

How do I plan my professional development?

You will have either a Job Chat or Staff Development Review on an annual basis. You will be able to discuss progress and plan training and development with your manager at this point.

Do I have to attend training and development sessions?

Your manager will let you know what sessions you must attend. Examples of mandatory training are:

  • FMD Induction into the workplace for new staff

  • Those courses that are needed for the University to comply with the law or professional body such as Corgi courses, food hygiene courses, COSHH training.
